Add a Border to an Image
Put a clean frame around a picture — a white Instagram-style border, a thin black keyline, or a bold brand colour. Set the width in pixels, pick the colour, and the framed copy is built on your own device.

How it works
The border is added around the outside, so the image grows by twice the border width in each direction and nothing inside is covered or cropped. That matters for Instagram: adding a 60-pixel white border to a 1080-pixel square gives a 1200-pixel square that Instagram simply scales down, keeping your photo fully visible with breathing room. For a keyline that separates a white-background product shot from a white web page, a 1- or 2-pixel light grey border is usually enough. Transparent PNGs keep their transparency inside the frame; the border itself is always solid.

Frequently asked questions
How do I add a white border for Instagram?
Set the colour to #FFFFFF, choose a width around 5% of the image (60 px on a 1080 px photo), and press Add border. The framed image stays square and Instagram scales it to fit.
Does the border cover part of my photo?
No. It is added outside the existing pixels, so the output is larger than the input by twice the width. Nothing is cropped.
Can I make a border a different width on each side?
Not here — the width is the same all round. For an asymmetric frame, add the border and then crop one side with the crop tool.
What colour formats can I use?
The picker takes any hex colour. Type a value like #1A73E8 directly, or pick visually.
Will a transparent PNG stay transparent?
Inside the frame, yes. The border area is filled with the solid colour you chose.
Does this lower the quality?
PNG and WebP are saved losslessly. JPG is re-encoded once at high quality; the original pixels are copied without resampling.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The frame is drawn by your browser’s canvas; nothing is sent anywhere.
Can I add a rounded or shadowed frame?
This tool draws a flat solid frame. For rounded corners, run the result through the Round Corners tool.
