How it works
The tool samples the four corners to learn the background colour (or uses the one you specify), then floods inward from every edge, clearing each pixel whose colour is close enough to that reference — the tolerance setting decides how close. Because the fill only spreads through connected background, a white shirt in the middle of a photo is not touched unless it connects to the edge; and pixels just past the threshold get partial transparency so the outline is not jagged. That design makes it excellent for logos, icons, signatures, product photos on a sweep and scanned drawings, and useless for a person against a street: for that you need an AI segmentation model, which we do not run in the browser yet. JPG sources carry compression noise, so pick Medium or High tolerance for them; PNG logos usually work at Low.

Frequently asked questions
How do I make a white background transparent?
Add the image, leave the background on Auto (or choose White) and press Remove background. Download the PNG — the white area touching the edges is now transparent.
Why is some of the background still there?
It was not close enough to the detected colour — typical for JPG noise, shadows or a slight gradient. Raise the tolerance to High, or set a custom colour sampled from the stubborn area with the Color Picker tool.
Why did part of my logo disappear?
Because it matched the background colour and touched the edge, or the tolerance was too high. Lower the tolerance, or add a thin border of a different colour first so the fill cannot reach into the logo.
Can this cut a person out of a photo?
No. It removes a single flat colour spreading from the edges. Cutting a subject from a complex background needs an AI model; this tool is deliberately limited to what runs privately in your browser.
Are enclosed areas removed too?
No. Only background connected to the edges is cleared. The inside of a letter O on a white background stays white; run the result through the tool again with a border trick or edit it manually if you need those holes.
Why is the output PNG?
Transparency requires PNG or WebP; PNG is accepted everywhere. If you need a flat JPG on a different colour, add a background in any editor afterwards.
Is my image uploaded to remove the background?
No. Detection and removal both run in your browser; nothing is sent to a server, which is why there is no file-size limit beyond your device’s memory.
Does it work on several files at once?
Yes — drop a batch and each is processed with the same settings, each with its own download and a note of how much was removed.
